What's inside an atom?

A cluster of 1 trillion atoms arranged in a solid cube is incredibly microscopic, measuring only about 2.5 micrometers across, which is roughly 30 times smaller than the width of a human hair and completely invisible to the naked eye.

The first to estimate the radius of an atom was Johann Chrysostom Magnenus in 1646.

Atoms are extremely small. Their radius is about 0.1 nanometers (100 picometers), which means their diameter is roughly 0.2 to 0.6 nanometers (2 to 6 angstroms).

Atoms are extremely small, around 100 picometers across. A human hair is about a million carbon atoms wide.

I can understand the size of an atom being determined by the outer most electrons' orbits when it's an atom with tens to hundreds of electrons. But then there is hydrogen with its single electron. Now my understanding breaks down. How can a single electron determine the size? Is it a quantum physics thing? The electron is everywhere at all times? What about when hydrogen is reduced towards it's solid state, i.e. frozen?
