With the nib submerged in a bottle of ink, the pen’s rear plunger is extended and then pushed down through the transparent barrel. A single stroke draws ink into the chamber, making the filling process visible from start to finish.
Inside the pen, a piston seal creates a partial vacuum as it travels down the barrel. Near the end of its stroke, the seal reaches a widened section that allows the pressure to equalize, causing atmospheric pressure to push ink through the nib and feed into the low-pressure chamber.
Vacuum fillers are valued for their large ink capacity and efficient filling action. Unlike systems that require repeated squeezing or twisting, this design can fill much of the reservoir with one controlled movement.
