Packed mud can cling stubbornly inside an excavator bucket instead of falling out when dumped. Here, the operator uses a ground-mounted steel scraper known as a Texas Toothpick to quickly dislodge the material.
The bucket is positioned against the stationary steel plate and pulled across its edge using the excavator’s hydraulic power. The scraper cuts through the packed mud and breaks the suction and adhesion holding the wet soil against the bucket.
This simple tool gives operators a practical way to clear stubborn material without manually shoveling inside the bucket. It can also reduce the need to repeatedly shake or slam the bucket to knock packed soil loose.
