Caution: The tube IS the capacitor, not sure exactly how it works but I think there's a conductive layer on the inside and grounded on the outside with the glass acting as dielectric, but anyway the tube holds the charge. That arc is coming from running the HT circuit. If I recall correctly the HT power converter circuit runs at the TV horizontal frequency so you don't see interference from the converter instead the left of the screen might be fractionally brighter than the right.

I been bitten by this crt , and by a lawnmower motor capacitor same as washing machine cap, and many other tings but the thing shock that humbled me the most is an electronic ignition coil in a modern car ( tazers dont count here coz that was intentional and it was one meant for cattle and I wasnt even part of the bar brawl....)

Sir, I have one of those TVs myself and I simply pulled the plug out by hand; it's not deadly

Always touch it. But that's not possible it would just be 1 large spark a really scary one. I know cause I did it for fun to see what it would do when I was 12 years old in the 1990s..

The picture tube is one giant but low value capacitor, it hurts pretty good but is probably not gonna end you.

You can remove it after you deionize the tv.... Get a magnet, stronger the better and wave it over the screen and it will pull all the electricity out of the glass tube, note... Do it after the tv has been turned off for a good 12 hours....

I have knocked myself silly with those things.  They seem to make great  defibrillators.

No... He plugged it in, even a super capacitor can't deliver so much power for so long

36,000 volts isn't deadly if the amperage is low enough

There would not be a continuous arc only one large spark because the crt acts as a capacitor, so what they are showing is not correct….

volts is not a measurement index for the capacity of an object (how much electricity is inside the object) but rather an index that shows with how much force electrons are pushed through a wire, the actual danger is the amount of Coulombs which is the capacity and the amps. 1000000 Volts at 0.1 amp is not that dangerous, but 1 Volt at 100 amps can quickly end your life
