Her popularity is not in dispute. Her philanthropy shouldn't be either. I never criticize her as a person. As the billionaire poster child for autotune and everything that's wrong with music today? Absolutely. She's hardly the only offender, but she is indeed implicated. Pop music used to, well, pop. Since the 2000s, it's seeped in pretension. Everyone has to have a guitar on them to show they're a "serious artist" after the backlash against the "fake" boy bands and bubblegum pop singers of the 90s - you know, the ones who until 1998 or shortly after who actually sang without AI assistance. But again, this is not an indictment of Taylor Swift as a person or a philanthropist. She seems like a hell of a person. It's just a shame that that's what we're left with. Good people whose music sucks. And I know famous artists of the past have given their endorsement of her, but when you're a legend in music, the last thing you want to do is come off as petty and slam the next generation's music. I just miss the days when I wasn't hearing a computer program processing to try to help someone hit a note and it sounds like I'm listening to HAL 9000 sing. I'm not blaming any artist in particular. It's the industry standard now to pitch correct every song. But as it's the case now, I can't listen to any new artists, with very few exceptions.
