BTS’s brand was always authenticity. That’s why people like watching their shows and lives. But it’s time to acknowledge it is just a brand. Between shilling for Gemini, silence on genocide, platforming a violent domestic abuser, they’ve shown us that who they SAY they and who they actually are, are very, very different. I think they’re mostly about getting their bag now?

Honestly I've been so angry about this situation. The angrier I get, the sadder I get as well. Because I don't WANT to feel this way about my tannies?
But honestly this live did calm me down and help me see a bit clearer so thank u Bora!

Bora thank you for the discussion, I read almost all the comments. People can't disappoint me because all people are humans living life in this crazy world, waking up every day to different situations. I knew of CB abuse to Rihanna only, not the rest of his abusive career. So when I watched Tae and JK listening to CB on that recent live, I said "OH NO, stupid kids, don't they know what he did to Rihanna? ARMY are going to get angry at them on X" and I went to sleep, I live in Japan, so I'm on the opposite time zone to them. Then I woke up to Hobi's and RM stories. "OH NO, stupid, stupid STUPID". I went straight to X because I knew what was going to happen to them. Mind you, English is my second language, but I'm on English X too. In Spanish and English the discussions are very similar, similar words like "disappointment", "educate them", "apologize" all that patronizing superiority-complex western-centric language that I became to hate. Again, I live in Japan and in Japanese, the ARMY's discussions were that almost no body knew who CB was, and if they knew his music they didn't know his life as an abuser. And they were just learning about the whole thing. I went and learnt more about CB too, and got ANGRY at the whole music industry and his FUCKING STUPID fans to let him just be. So yes, I think the BTS members who likes CB music are stupid too. Do I hate them? puff of course NO. They're just stupid men, like most men and most women. They don't need to apologize, or talk about it, they can keep being fans of all the criminals/artists they want. They are not my own moral compass, they aren't my personality either. I'm ARMY and I love being ARMY, I will keep being a proud ARMY, because we are the best fandom, we have done amazing things together, and BTS are 7 men with different levels of stupid who make great music.

I think this mostly comes down to personal moral standards and where each of us draws the line. I understand why people are disappointed, but I don’t think we should expect artists or celebrities to share our values. At the end of the day, we don’t actually know them personally, it’s still a parasocial relationship.

For me, that’s probably why I don’t feel particularly disappointed. I’ve never let celebrities be my moral compass or expected them to have the same standards as me, no matter how much I like them. I can appreciate someone’s work without expecting them to be exactly the kind of person I want them to be.

But, I'm wondering what Namjoon and J-Hope are thinking. If I were them, I’d be extra careful about my image too, especially knowing there are people just waiting for them to slip up.

I understand people feeling disappointed but not the hate. There are probably more Artist that are shitty people and abusers than not. It’s just not always put front and center in the media as much as with these two(probably because they are the most successful black artists/entertainers since MJ). We follow BTS because of their great music and most of us became ARMY because they have proved they are genuinely good people. If I am honest I never really paid attention to if artist were good people before listening to their music before BTS. Probably because in the US there would have been no music to listen to if we did. We listened to the music but separated the artist from their art. Chris and Usher’s music was the sound track to my teenage and early adulthood years. I stopped listening to both but I don’t expect everyone to do the same. It also doesn’t negate the influence they both have had on dance and the musical and cultural impact these two artist have had which influenced other artist. I am sure this is triggering for some and you can let them know that it’s disappointing but that should be the end of it.

I understand that one can be disappointed, but you can't tell me I don't like them anymore but I go to their concerts, boo them or harass them. Looking at these accs, not a single post advocating for the victims or protesting against CB.

Using that outrage mode to disqualify BTS just for aesthetics, but not bringing any outcome outside that.. and that says a lot about their hypocrisy and performative.

    sorry long comment:
seperating artist from the art can work, just not publically. there are artists that i listen to that are either just in a morally grey zone, problematic, or have done actual terrible things. i can seperate some songs from those creators and enjoy them, i dont have a connection to that artist otherwise. but by doing that privately, through old cd's, downloads etc., im not supporting them in any way.

them posting about it is bad. theres one thing i can take from that tho, which is that i dont think they wouldve proudly posted about it, if they did know about his history. for now thats the biggest proof to me, that they just didnt know, and were just genuinely excited to meet their teen-idol, being starstruck. i guess thats the silver lining to me, which of course doesnt erase the bad. but its context to consider imo.

since this is such an emotional situation, people seem to be having a hard time talking about it level-headed. tho these feelings are valid, i see a lot of people clearly talking/acting on impulse, which leads to unrealistic demands and irrational conclusions. seeing people say after ONE day "they havent addressed it yet so that means they never will, im done" is crazy irrational. in the end its anyones choice of course, but i dont see this behavior as productive or reasonable at all. some people are acting like they killed someone and need to prove their alibi asap.

i probably wrote this phrase a hundred times by now, but it seems to fit the best: its easy to scream "educate yourself" but then people need to actually give them time to do so. acting like theres a moral clock ticking down, and they are losing worth with every minute that they dont address it, is just unfair to them and not rational.

and of course people misusing this situation and weaponizing the emotions at play, just to frame bts as bad as possible and spread hate, is also just harming the debate they claim to care about.

i think its ridiculous to drop them for, what i perceive as an obvious misstep, innocent and ignorant, but no crime deserving of execution.

i hope they distance themselves from cb of course, learn his history, i dont want them to be associated in any way. but i also wont count down the seconds until they say something about it, and judge or question their entire character based on this one situation until then.
saying "dont be dramatic" isnt what i want to do when these valid and complex emotions are happening and i agree with the core criticism, but thats exactly what i want to say reading some comments who are blowing this way out of proportion. its almost like a trap, they say the most unhinged things about the members so you feel the need to correct them and bring them down to earth, just for that to get twisted into "see, army will excuse anything" which just isnt true either.

this whole situation and more so how certain people treat it is really frustrating. its not blind loyalty, its trust i build over the years that they never broke before, only ever confirmed its validity.
i hope they will learn from this, and about their own responsibility with their platforms and influence, but i wont demand their head chopped off and leave them behind in the dirt if they dont answer until the clock hits 12. they can learn, and they have in the past, but realistically not overnight. so i keep my trust in them, which also means granting them my patience and benefit of the doubt. not out of blind support, but because of the 13 years of proof of ongoing reflection and growth. ? as always, time will tell. everyone take a step back, clear your mind and take a deep breath.

Seperate the art from the artist? I can't. I never could. When I learned what a horrible person Tolstoi was I couldn't read anything he wrote ever again. When I read about Picasso and Dali, all the Posters in my room were removed. When I learned about Woody Allen or Raman Polanski I couldn't watch their movies anymore. My brain can not separate it. I just can't. But it's me. I never listened to a Chis Brown song after seeing Rihannas beaten up face. (it was all over the news in Germany back then). I don't check every artist before I consume their work for the first time, but I am somebody who googles a lot about the things I like. It's really not hard these days to get information.
I thought about the whole thing so much (to much) the last two days and yesterday evening I asked myself: If he would have beaten up asian men would they still listen to his music? My friends say that I am to harsh and expect to much from other people. I do. I`m working on it. But man, this one hurt really bad and it only does, because I like them.

When a person has morals and he is really a good person he can never drop those morals at any case, for me knowing an artist as pedophil, rapist, someone who have business in drugs, an artist who commit murders..... His art is irrelevant period, listening to his music enjoying his art and drop my morals trying top separate art from personal live im helping the pedophil artist to keep being pedophil and get money out of his work and be relevant in society and i help give him status and power and i encourage others to do the same, while many good people and very very talented artists can't find a space i than help the bad people be in the spot lights. Sorry but morals can't be dropped, i saw usher helped didy to abuse justin bieber sexually at age 9 and he is in the epstein files with many celebrity and politicians who sacrifice babies and eat human flesh........... So what kind of music or art he may give me? I will chose to listen to others artists who are small and talented than give my time and help those evil people have a career, i don't understand people who say we separate music from people, like it's ok this artist is in the epstein files, he do horrible things in life but i. Should enjoy the live my self i should enjoy pop culture so i need to drop my morals, he this artist maybe a criminal, a pedophil but he makes good music. Anyway if we drop our morals means we are inconsistent, i would rather enjoy clean life in nature, be good to people get other hobbies rather than enjoy a music coming from dirthy evil human i help them be evil more by giving them relevance, is if i search i definitely will find a wonderful people with wonderful talent and music people who give addition to life and people. Anyway as i saw many of u want to ignore  everything for some temporary joy u accept music even from a pedophil and u can find it good. Bts are pure gays why we love them bcz they don't drop their values, their work and life morals are same, RM and bts together don't want to do any music without meaning or that have negative influence on people this is who i can accept music from and find it relevant, i trust the boys but i can't accept them as wonderful people together be around usher who destroyed justin bieber 9 years old child and gave it to abuse it, i will not respect katy berry who has a video talking abt selling her soul the devil and doing sacrifice for fame, i will never listen to arriana grandee who by her self said she is a witch and she use black magic and her recent video abt human sacrifice and blood, i can never feel ok to see bts around those evil artists. If our choices are good we force bad people together fixe them selves, but we burry good talented people and we keep supporting rubbish and we say we arw people with morals.

I honestly think the AI ad is way worse than the photo with CB. The photo was certainly a mistake and I think they should take it down so they don’t continue to platform him. But the AI promotion is what actually made me second guess my support for them.
I believe that as a person you can either support art or AI not both. Because AI inherently steals from real artists.
The human emotions and thoughts expressed in a piece of art are what make it art and involving AI even in small ways makes it slop not art.
Promoting AI is promoting the theft of art from (mostly) smaller artists, that will never be compensated for it.
It also promotes wasting water, a finite resource that becomes more valuable with the rising temperatures.
    It promotes polluting the environment.
It promotes algorithms that are advertised as objective and fact based even though they regularly get things wrong and the training data is tainted with all kinds of bigotry therefore the output is too.
It promotes a chatbot that wants to keep your attention so badly it will isolate you, make you addicted, feed any delusion and even tell you to end yourself.
Google gemini the product they’re promoting told a man to leave this world and he did.
I know not all AI is bad but chatbots and most generative AI are completely unethical on so many levels.
I also know that AI is a lot more accepted in many countries including Korea.
But this product goes against everything they claim to stand for.
Using it is one thing, I don’t agree with it but I can understand, but advertising it supports something that ruins so many people’s lives.
It is so hypocritical after speaking out on the importance of art, protecting the planet and mental health.
I think this is the worst collaboration they have ever done.
Obviously I won’t support the collaboration and use the product but there are people who will and that will make the world a worse place.
Sorry for the rant but I had to get it out somewhere, it’s been bothering me a lot.

I feel like we are no longer allowed to be ignorant. Every time we interact with something we are expected to have done an FBI level background check on it and everything it has interacted with and everything those have interacted with. Nobody actually moves through the world like that, because it's exhausting. I knew CB by name and that's it (then again I don't listen to that genre), so I don't find it hard to believe that BTS didn't know about the controversy. "But they're in the industry", yes but they don't strike me as people who gossip about other artists. Everyone is entitled to their feelings and opinions, I'm not saying you're wrong for the way you feel or think about this, I just wanted to share my observation of the situation as someone who has no stake in it other than I like BTS.

I've watched both HybeBoy's and Asian Entertainment Culture's takes on this, and I think AEC was the most neutral and well-spoken. I also want to know your take on this. But as for me, I'm not disappointed at all, even after finding out just now about CB's background. Because I saw J-Hope and RM's actions as them just enjoying their rest day after a grueling day of hard work that they deserve. It's also ok for some to feel disappointed, but I wouldn't hold them accountable for anything they didn't owe me. BTS is actually the only artist I ever did some research on their music or background because of the language barrier.

I wont really speak on those who just say they are disappointed and why. I will say though, sorry to those who want an apology i PERSONALLY am not behind that, i honestly hope they dont. Address it if they feel the need to but no to the apology. If BTS is nolonger your safe space because they attended and took pictures with CB then i can only tell you to distance yourself form them for some time to think or move on entirely. I would not want anyone to stay in a place they feel enhances their trauma. I say this because ive seem too many to count comments of people saying they want them on their knees apologising coz they've spent years and money on them as if this relationship between Army was not symbiotic. BTS wasnt just taking your money without giving a lot back. Any way all im saying is there is a good chunk of the fandom that is really really entitled right now and its not just about being disappointedfor them. And for those who have stated they hold Namjoon esp to a higher standard i honestly dont know if i should even say anything because as he is my bias i am kind of defensive. The man has stated multiple times he doesnt like that and how it stresses him out. I guess i should stop there

I am baffled how some armys reacted to this situation . I will forever feel sorry for BTS for the type of fandom they have who are worst than antis . If anyone feels they can make a character judgement on the type of people BTS are just because they attended a concert forgetting everything good they have ever done till now then sorry you are not a good human being . How can you so easily forget how BTS'S character is just because they attended a concert . The same group who didn't even took a rest during their military service left content for you to enjoy so you don't feel bored , the same group who rushed to make the best album ever right after discharging from their military service the same group who have already sacrificed more than enough to keep you guys happy . I can say it with confidence no other artists cares this much about their fandom other than BTS , for some artists fans are just cash grab but these guys have been sincere with their fans even after getting as big as they are now . It's easy to put someone on a pedastal and act like they are morally superior than any normal human in this world but guess what it's f*cking impossible to be that good of a person everyone has flaws . I am not supporting domestic abuse or violence but sometimes you need to think before making interpretation of someone's entire character based on just one mistake . How can you forget all he good things done by BTS just because they committed some mistakes . Don't you guys see how they interact with their female fans with so much respect how can you say just because they went to a concert they support abuse against women . You don't know them personally assuming things that are not true is stupidity . Anyone who feels they did wrong has the right to be upset but making death threats, telling them to disband, wishing harm on the members, calling them abusers, you are just mentally ill please seek professional help . If you want the members to cry and beg for forgiveness you are delusional that's not going to happen . If you feel power over someone's life and you think you can control them you are parasocial and you need to get out of your home meet some real people . Their is a limit and an extent to which you can control a celebs life do not cross that . Just imagine yourself in their shoes , someone keeps telling you what you can do what you cannot whether you can drink coke or not whether you can go to Starbucks or not what singer you can listen to what you cannot you will be frustrated.  What kind of abusive relationship is this where you feel you have control on everything they do . Are you okay in your head if anyone of you were in their place you would've probably offed yourself by now . JUST STOP PLS STOP BEFORE YOU CROSS THE LINE AND MAKE ANY OF THE MEMBERS DO SOMETHING BAD

My personal take on the matter is layered.

First - there is a mistake in assuming that just because you know something that everyone else knows it too.  I think it is okay to share what you know based on facts and let others make their own decision once they are also aware of those facts.  Time will show if they've taken that knowledge to heart or choose to ignore it.  And they do not have to share that process publicly - time will tell how they absorb what they've learned.

Second - I will not cancel or hate on BTS for what CB did but I will also not like, repost or share any content that contains that person.  I will not be complicit in platforming a person like that.  So go to their concerts, enjoy your time with other ARMY because it's not like you're going to see CB - you're there to see BTS.

Third and last - the amount of people who have suffered from abuse of any kind in every culture is very large so you cannot disregard how some people feel about the matter when you're not them and haven't lived their experiences.  We can all have trauma in our lives from different sources to varying degrees (it's not a competition on who's was worse) so even though the members did nothing wrong themselves - you can't just disregard the feelings of people who can be triggered by proximity to someone who is an abuser.

I am convinced they were not actively aware of the person Chris Brown is. I mean, who in his right mind would destroy his own reputation by posting online when you know that everything you do is scrutinised and hated upon. But I am kind of glad they learned this lesson before they collaborate with somebody with a criminal or violent history. I guess they will be careful now.
And the more I think about it, this situation stresses me out. Will JK or V even be able to have a playlist in the background in their live streams without people judging every played artists character and accusing them of actively supporting those crimes or artists? They work 24/7 and listen to a lot of music, as they should following the trends. When can they even have the time to follow scandals of other people, when they are busy enough following social media about themselves?

there is a huge difference between “supporting an individual’s wrongdoing” and “acknowledging their objective contributions to music and choreography.”....... They are not even friends or family... Maybe they just went their because they used to listen to their music...if your are a true fan you would know they have been listening to chris brown and all...and also I just wanna say its not only BTS... Every idol listens to their music did cover songs and danced to their choreography and still so much more... But, suddenly BTS came to the concert and EVERYONE was like "oh BTS cancel them they went to chris brown concert" like bro?... I heard KOREAN people don't even know chris brown... As an INDIAN we also don't know chris brown that much until his songs go viral then we start to listen to his songs... We don't know his life or any personal things at all.... Korean media is soo much different then any country... They have kakao talk something like that they don't have google... They don't get western media news.... I know amd i have learned its okay to be disappointed... But, "I just know from my heart BTS never knew about this case".... Just think about it even tho RM knows english and stuff doesn't mean he has to know everything.... He has his own career... Bts has their tours, interviews, shows much more etc... No time to even rest properly....i just wanna say they were just fans since long time just attended as a fan and nothing else.... And some called ARMYS ( haters, anti's ) saying they will create black ocean for them like bro ?? did BTS did the crime or something....and also i will say again its okay to be disappointed, its not okay to hate them, call them abusers just because they attended and sending death threats.... I wanna say BTS is also learning i am preety sure thus news already got to them.... Hope joon and hobi are doing well and don't take this to minds and heart and again THANK YOU BORA FOR SPEAKING ABOUT THIS?....

I have researched about domestic violence in South Korea and most koreans feel is is a private matter, most women do not report violence but 1 in 5 women are victms in SK.  So it is probably not something that BTS as native Koreans are used to addressing. It also seems like a lot of men in general do not realize how affected women are by how some men treat them. Hopefully BTS can reflect on the feeling of some of their fans and learn from it

All we can hope for is that BTS shows us why we were right to stan them and spend so much money on them for all these years, they see the backlash, think about it, repent, apologize and change their ways.
It's true that they don't have to be a beacon of morality (I'm against smoking but when it turned out that JK smoked i didn't give a damn honestly, if he wanted to ruin his beautiful voice that was his prerogative, though I heard he apparently stopped), but they're the biggest group in the world partly because they appealed to a certain crowd.
You cannot make music that is socially conscious and speaks to the mind of the unheard and broken and then make a massive turnaround and support people and causes that go against that very same message that made you famous (CB, AI, the zionist guy, etc)
I gave them a lot of grace so far but now i am over it. I will not engage with their music and content until these problems are addressed. They're full grown adults and need to be held accountable, ESPECIALLY since they're such public figure AND with such a socially conscious fandom.

I think the original conversation has gotten completely twisted. There’s a huge difference between saying, “I don’t agree with what you did, it made me uncomfortable, and I hope you learn from it,” and turning it into, “You’re just as bad as the abuser, we hate you, and you shouldn’t be in the group.”

I completely understand fans expressing disappointment. Supporting someone doesn’t mean blindly agreeing with everything they do. But criticism and outright hate are not the same thing.

I think that’s why everyone feels attacked now. People expressing genuine discomfort are getting lumped in with people spreading hate, while those who still support the members are being accused of not caring.

There has to be room for nuance. We don’t know everything they knew or didn’t know, and attending a concert doesn’t automatically mean supporting everything that artist has done. We can disagree with someone and hope they learn from it without completely tearing them down. Everything doesn’t have to be so black and white.

The fundamental debate is some people can separate the art from the artist. There is no right or wrong answer, it is a personal view. I can't but I have friends and family that do and that is ok. Many amazing artists were horrible human beings but created amazing music, paintings, movies, books ect..

How do you even stand beside an abuser so happily take a photo ? And say its an honor?

Well I think it is better for all BTS members to learn about the not so bright history of all their favorite artists especially who they want to collaborate or publicly support. Actually their team can do the preliminary research for them, it is more productive this way.

Honestly, I genuinely don’t understand why armys are saying they’re “disappointed” in BTS just because they attended Chris Brown’s concert. What exactly is there to be disappointed about? They went to a concert they didn’t commit the same things Chris Brown has been criticized for, and attending an artist’s concert doesn’t automatically mean you support or agree with everything that person has done in their personal life. For example, if you’re a good person and you happen to be friends with someone who has made bad choices, does that automatically make you a bad person too? Of course not you’re responsible for your own actions, not someone else’s. In the same way, BTS attending an artist’s concert doesn’t suddenly change who they are or make them responsible for that artist’s past. You can personally dislike Chris Brown or disagree with BTS going to his concert, that’s completely fine, but saying you’re “disappointed in BTS” as if they themselves did something wrong just because they attended a concert honestly feels like a huge overreaction

Context does matter. I'm not American and I had never heard of chris brown in my life till 2021 or 2022 when I saw early bts videos mentioning chris brown and I went to Spotify to listen to his songs and immediately liked under the influence. I didn't know about rihanna and other cases till much later and after that stopped listening to him. So I understand context does matter, but still I am disappointed by bts especially rm and jhope. Artists like them who closely follow hiphop and pay respect to black artists, I find it difficult to believe they were unaware of chris brown atleast being controversial. Usher is not a good guy as well. I still support bts and don't condone the hatred against them but I hope they understand why people felt disappointed and are able to reflect on it. Other artists and the general public supporting chris brown is also not right, but me and many other armies don't follow those artists we follow BTS and one of the reasons is because we genuinely believe BTS to be good guys. So do they really want to associated with someone like chris brown is my question when their fanbase is mostly women. Regardless of if they listen to his music privately or not is not my concern because there might be nostalgia attached to these works, but what disappointed me was them publically tagging him on Instagram as it seems like they are endorsing him. With the amount of impact and influence they have it was not a good look. That being said they are facing more hatred than chris brown which is bizarre to me. Other armies and fans talking about black ocean are you guys okay? Let's be reasonable hating on them and doing black ocean is going too far, and will only alienate bts from the fandom. Let's give them some time to reflect on what happened, take in the opinions of people and hopefully they will understand why people were disappointed.

If anything good could come of this mess, it's knowing that at least  more ppl outside the US now know more about his history of abuse. I wonder if that will have any effect on his popularity? Being dissapointed is expected, normal and okay (i myself am); but any other outraged behaviour is ridicolous and exagerated. I want to mainly speak about  the people saying they did it for profit and exposure.  This isnt 2019 Bts anymore, they are at the absolute peak of their career, they rejected the grammys and went to perform at the world cup, the last thing they need is clout from usher and f*ing chris brown. Same for them too btw, i dont think their fans who support them even tho they are very problematic, would ever get into Bts just cause they saw two members with chris or usher on instagram, and clearly its the same for Armys too. People need to stop creating narrative, they filmed themselve vibing at the concert's of artists  they grew up listening to and took a couples picture. That doesnt make them criminals. I do think their teams could have done a better pr job tho?

Hello, I truly appreciate your honesty; I completely agree with what vou said. I'm not an "official" ARMY--I'm from Romania, I'm 56 vears old. and I love BTS: love their music. their message, and their character. They are wonderful souls who have helped millions of people through difficult times in their lives with positive, sincere messages. They have always shown respect for ARMY and for all living things around them--people, animals, insects... How can so-called ARMYs accuse them of supporting violence against women? Have those people ever truly understood them? God gave us the capacity for forgiveness. People, learn to forgive! Evervone learns from their mistakes. becomes a better person, and matures. RM and J-Hope did nothing wrong! Right now, I consider myself more of an ARMY than those who merely claim the title.

Thankyou for adressing all of it so well. Honestly i didn't even know what cb did and even liked their stories thinking they are just enjoying another concert. But then i got a whiplash seeing how ppl are making it such a big thing, without realising that not everyone knows every single thing about an artist. And it was a bit of an over reaction for me. I am not sideliniing survivors of dv and @buse but how does calling bts out for attending a concert of a person who did that even connected? If they had known, i am 100% sure they would have thought about it multiple times without posting so casually. They were simply just vibing and having a good time and i dont see any reason for them to be called out on that. ARMYs have always stood up for good causes and donations and i think we should do that instead of calling BTS out for it. And by the insane criticism i am sure namjoon knows about the artist now but i dont know why he should apologise for it, i think even saying that they don't know or were not aware and went by mistake is more than enough acknowledgement. Also ARMYs and ppl in general are criticising AI for no reason, it is a technology just like the internet is and with my research it is not harming the environment more than using instagram or spamming on twitter. There are tons of good sides of AI and no it is not taking ppl's jobs, it is providing them with it. AI is not going to harm music or art ever just like computers didnt, we now have digital art, photography didn't ruin paintings, we now have photographers, similary AI is not gonna ruin art, it is simply going to be helpful to make a different AI art and that is literally just art because a human is using it to make it just like a camera. As an artist myself i see no harm and no it is not stealing ppl's works, it is simply studying art and human writing that is already in the public domain just like ppl get inspirations. It is our human technology which has helped improve research, education, science and healthcare more than we see and i think ppl need to get their own correct infos on it instead of following the general hate ai propoganda. BTS is nowhere to blame when we see that perspective of Gemini, it is just a search engine that gives answers on the basis of human info.

Part of the music industry is coalescing around abusers much like Hollywood did with Harvey Weinstein until they couldn’t. Usher defended Diddy in May and CB has a pending sentence for assault. It’s sad to see the way people with influence ignore and normalize this behavior. I’m not blaming or hating BTS because they didn’t create the system. That doesn’t mean it feels good to watch them platform these same men knowingly or otherwise. I’m not judging any ARMYs feelings or making demands of the guys. Take care fam?

I think if they are fans as they seem to be, they would have to know the guys big scandas, so I don't think it's reasonable to say, you don't know. If I like an artist enough to go to concert, i know the big things most of the time, not saying 100%.  And I honestly don't mind, like I know what they stand for and how they treat and talk and interact with women, it's just the fact that many women's first association of the guy is dv while artists and especially men's aren't, even if they know. It's just sad. I don't think they made a mistake as big as people are portraying it to be, but posting stories and tagging him was not a great move, sensitivity wise and pr wise. I think we can let them know that but god i just know all the hate and people who are gonna suddenly become interested now.

At this point I hope they are okay but I also hope they understand the real response not the hate and handle this thought fully. I still like them, obv. But damn i might need to distance myself, at this point it's the same noise.

I am SOO upset by everything that happened. Conciously standing next to people like cb and usher is not a "moral compass" -IT IS WRONG. not grey but WRONG. I will fool myself to think thry didnt know and will expect better from them from now on. Also, those who still eant to speak up(esp women) ARE allowed. Silencing them is not the solution. If ppl still want tl discus(respextfully as many are) -they are allowed. No one gives anyone the ryt to tell others how they should feel about abuse and its consequences. RM  and JHope did go back on everything they stood for and thats why its hurting. M just gonna assume they didnt know, have said sorry in their hearts and just gulp this thing down. But seriously, if  this ever happens again, M leaving. No music or artist is bigger than morals, values and principles. Abusers like cb dont deserve a platform and its the people who listen to him, who support him and who PROMOTE him thats giving him  audacity and money. I will never be listening to abusers and I will never be listening to people who even after knowing someone is an abuser stands next to them and smile and dances. Thats where I draw the line.

I just wish I didn't have to go through mental hoops to justify to myself these situations. When I feel uncomfortable when BTS are doing something it's exhausting trying to come up with justification because in reality I'm genuinely upset and I often didn't allow myself to be.

In this situation I was more disappointed because I'm a woman first and Army second.

I still love BTS's music and guys themselves helped me a lot in the past but why do I have to check myself and my feelings on this matter only because"this will draw more hate to bts",  when in my real life this hurts my mental state, to ignore my feelings.

Hi bora, I literally deleted all social media since I knew it was going to become a real mess, not going to lie, I was disappointed, and I still don´t have a conclusion specially after seeing the amount of idols and western celebrities that still support him or at least promote/listen/buy CB´s music, but it was an opportunity to analyze the relationship I have with BTS, they do not think like me, and I can be disappointed and ask for accountability without assuming the worse of Hoseok and Namjoon (I deeply admire both).

I really believe this time they really need to take accountability, during last year with the W Korea drama and all the controversies with brand deals I defended BTS, because I believe there are conversations we can have as fandom abt our artist without sending hate to the members, because they didn´t do anything wrong, but now, even if I don´t think they support or defend CB as a person, I believe that the fact they attended means there is a prespective they didn´t consider.

I think you are right if they speak on it every major news outlet will write about it even tho they aren't writing about it now or even other celebrity backlash of attending (as I haven't seen any, I've only seen this outrage aimed at them). It maybe something that they address in the future and personally reflect on but not say out loud, they might even speak through their music instead. But I think one thing that happens a lot like you mentioned Bora about in Kpop is artists often feel forced to apologize and some kpop fans seem to have this since of power over their idols when they are able to get them to apologize at will. It's something they feel they can control with an idol. But I don't personally consider BTS to be Kpop idols I haven't for several years, frankly since 2018 I haven't seen them as that. I also believe they have been trying to move away from that oppressive system for years and wanted to start a new chapter in their career when they came back from the military. They have been doing things completely different in a lot of ways and I even see songs like Normal or the way they have been telling us they are just 7 people is trying to tell us something. I think a big issue is there are a like of kpop fans out there stuck in the kpop idol mindset who don't want to let BTS evolve, it's been a struggle going on for 6 yrs now but they really seem to be stubbornly unwilling to see them past that. When I talk to other accounts of people saying or demanding certain things of them they are usually fans of other kpop artists as well and they think that's just the way things have to be even if they clearly aren't holding their other fav kpop groups to the same standard (I found those lists of other kpop artists very helpful to tag them in cuz they weren't talking about it at all and many refused to even when I showed them the evidence). We also unfortunately had a lot of boycotters from 2024 and a lot of antis jumping on to make things much worse. Sadly we had this problem happen in 2024 when peoples emotions were manipulated into hurting the members by those who had an agenda to harm them, they took advantage of a situation full of heightened emotions to target BTS purposely and it unfortunately snowballed so huge it was a nightmare. I never want to experience that again, it was Break Wings Project on steroids imo because they infiltrated army ranks on another level.

HEALTHY criticism doesn’t make anybody an anti for doing so, and it helps BTS grow as both humans and artists.

It is ok to be disappointed. Even if they went there just for the music, what ended up happening is that CB got visibility through them. That’s the bad result, despite the good intentions. And whether you like it or not, this kind of “separating art from the artist” is what enables these terrible people to roam free.

Sadly we all have certain expectations from people we put up on a pedestal, and when they make very human mistakes it’s ok to be disappointed.

But turning what should a healthy discussion about enabling misogynists and DV abusers, into a hate train where dt, hate and misinformation is spread is frankly unnecessary and unacceptable.

And making all this about BTS, instead of focusing on the real problem, which is CB and the normalisation of supporting abusers, is ignorant and distracting

I understand the disappointment, I felt the same way, but at this point the constant cycle of repetition and rebuttal feels more like wallowing than productive dialogue. If people are genuinely upset, I wish they would channel that energy into something productive by supporting and promoting fundraisers for domestic violence shelters and survivors. I’ve seen ARMYs trying to start a donation drive and the comment section is CRICKETS. Deafening silence. ARMYs have always been so good at turning negative things into positive action but it seems they have forgotten that skill and prefer to just scream into the void.

I will start by saying yes I was disappointed when I saw the story (especially since I have gone through dv plus I used to listen to his music cause he is VERY popular in the country i am from)and I genuinely hope and believe that they will see all this backlash and do better in future. I love BTS with all my heart, I will never view them as these pillars of good morality and purity cause I see them as human bound to make mistakes just like me & will continue to support them as I always have? BUT what I don’t understand and condone is the complete character assassination, name calling, bullying and ? threats thrown at hobi Joon and BTS overall all in the name of “holding them accountable”. Cause according to these “concerned fans” if an abu$er/rapi$t who has faced no consequences of their actions attends a BTS concert they will immediately be deemed as good showing solidarity to 7 men who have given to multiple charities multiple times and stood up for women children and animal rights etc? Hell! If Chris brown attended BTSs concert 2 weeks ago people would forget all he has done and view him as a good guy right?!
ATP BTS have received way more hate than what cb himself has received in his entire career. I think multiple things can exist at the same time with caring for the members and wanting to express disappointment in their actions. I think that is okay . What isn't is using it to bolster hate towards the members instead of the main people who need to be questioned like how are we okay with known abusers being able to still have a career? Why did it take this happening to bring attention to it? Is he getting as much smoke as BTS at the moment? I think the most off putting actions the guys made was taking a picture with him and posting it. I'm not calling for cancellation or anything that drastic but it is okay for these disappointments to be expressed but also know this is going to feed people who hate BTS to give them a stupid reasons to be hateful.

It's not about fitting into certain standards, not because some people hate Chris Brown (which he deserves), but how can you go and support the music of a man who abused and raped multiple women and is proud of it by tattooing one of their faces on his body after disfiguring her? Do you really think that's okay? Not talking about these situations is exactly the reason Chris Brown is free and continues making music when he should be in jail. If these were other idols, you'd be the first to cancel them, send waves of hate, share false information, and then wish them dead. Questioning the actions of your favorite artist doesn't make you a hater , but defending this actions do make you a male centered , and no, you can't separate the art from the artist , Going to a concert is a way to support an artist if you're buying a ticket that generates revenue, becoming part of their audience, and contributing financially to their career. That's support, even if it's specifically for their artistic work. And in this case, there's something more: it wasn't simply "listening to some songs." They went to the concert, took pictures with him, posted the photos, and spoke positively about the experience. If you're a public figure with millions of followers, that also generates visibility and positive publicity for that person. You can't broadcast music and take a stand against violence and then go to the concert of an abuser when 90% of your fans are women.

I'm not an expert in korea or anything but, just by seeing how they treat their own abü$er$ and r4p¡$ts it's clear to me that in general, they just don't talk about these types of issues in detail. To my knowledge, famous korean men who abü$e women barely get 2 years of prison in the best case scenario, so why would I think that koreans are completely aware of the crimes of a foreign singer like Chris Brown? Don't get me wrong, I wish everyone knew, but that just seems unlikely.

Canceling other celebrities for their affiliation with Chris Brown is unfortunately an american thing only, it happened to Kelly Rowland, Chloe Bailey and others, but so far, even with the canceling of some celebrities, he's still accepted in the industry, he literally got 3 Grammy nominations only last year, if I'm not mistaken.

And when it comes to BTS, I think that just like most koreans, they might be unaware of his crimes, I really really doubt that they know the list of horrible things he has done from top to bottom, because if they knew, they would've rejected that invitation. I'm sorry if I seem dumb or whatever but that's just my opinion. And right now, I just hope BTS hires a global PR consultant or something like that, to advice them about these types of issues because expecting them to know every single thing about every celebrity on planet earth might be a bit too much to ask.

I wish BTS had the opportunity to learn about this in a more gentle way, but it is what it is and hopefully we'll all learn something from this experience.

Before I say this I want to clarify that I’ve been an army for 9 years, and I’m not going to stop supporting them. But I am extremely disappointed.

First with the A.I. Ad. Idk how much influence they have over this stuff, but it’s just very sad to see especially since they’ve always been about authenticity and supporting real art. AI is so harmful to our environment, it’s being used to fire people, and much more nefarious stuff too. It SUCKS seeing not just BTS, but lots of artists I looked up to, taking money to promote this stuff.

Second, the Chris brown thing. Imho, if they just attended the concert I could hear an argument. But they didn’t. They also posed for a photo with him and promoted him on their Instagram (where they have millions of followers). They helped whitewash an abuser who continues to this day to act violently towards others.

As someone with experience with domestic violence, I’m not going to sugarcoat this, it HURT. I saw it first on RM’s story, it was a literal shock to my system.

    The defenses I’ve heard are;

    1. They didn’t know. This to me is so silly, Chris brown is a super influential hip hop figure and they clearly know his music. They’re also in the actual industry. His case with Rihanna was super high profile. I’ve never heard a song of his and still knew. Like come on, they can’t have been totally unaware. They also have PR teams for this exact reason. At the very least it’s negligence. They didn’t do their due diligence. Like first they went to the concert, then they met and took a photo, then they left and made the decision to post about it. That’s THREE points where nobody stopped and went “isn’t this guy kinda of controversial? I should look into that”.

    2. The moral compass argument. This is hard because yes, BTS get so much hate and unfair criticism that others are not subjected to. YES there are haters and jealous people who try to smear BTS and hold them to impossible standards.

BUT that doesn’t mean we can’t have legitimate concerns as well. Two things can be true. We have to be able to seperate good faith from bad faith critique.

On the debate of celebrities as moral compasses, I generally agree they shouldn’t be forced into that role. However we as fans choose to support them, and they have a lot of influence. They reap the rewards from that influence, they should also then have to accept the responsibility that comes with it.

We as ARMY often tout their charity and good acts, so how can we then ignore their mistakes? We can’t have our cake and eat it. That’s hollow.

I will just finish with this, if you are okay with supporting an abuser, you probably need to re evaluate your priorities. I’ve seen a lot of debate about BTS not having to follow “your” principles etc. but it’s 2026 and with all the awful stuff going on, I really don’t want to have to argue about whether domestic violence is condemnable. This isn’t “I like apples, you like oranges”. This is about REAL VICTIMS and real pain, there isn’t a grey area here. There really isn’t.

Sorry for how long this is and if it seems harsh, I just had to get that out there before watching the video (I also apologise if anything I said gets covered).

Very telling that the fandom doesn't even mention that V and Jungkook played and sang along and danced to Chris Brown songs on their most recent weverse live, which was broadcast the day before RM and j-hope attended Usher/CB concert. Or seem to remember Jimin having a CB song on his Favorite Tracks spotify playlist earlier this year, or his mention of CB and Tory Lanez (guy who shot Megan Thee Stallion and a CB friend & collaborator) from the Rolling Stone article earlier this year. Instead of acknowledging the double standards, fans suddenly play dumb. All members are fans of CB music (he's not controversial in most countries) and have shared his music many times over the years.

    Here’s what’s making me angry.
    1. The hypocrisy
    2. The demand to apologise.

I’m not saying people shouldn’t feel disappointed or upset.

The hypocrisy comes because in the same breath that people are saying they can Stan BTS without agreeing with or condoning everything they do, they are accusing BTS of misogyny and condoning violence against women for attending a concert where CB was one of the performers. And those people can’t seem to see the hypocrisy in their own stance.

The problem with a demand for an apology: they don’t owe us one. They didn’t do anything wrong. You can be disappointed. I am too. But I know who Hobi and Joonie are. I know they are not misogynists.
When you ask someone to apologise you are asking them to admit guilt.
    Guilt for what exactly?
The ARMY who said that she can’t help her emotions being overwhelming for her has got it right because at least she knows it.
Should we be accusing someone of a heinous crime, demanding an apology which is an admission of guilt because our emotions are getting the better of us? Because we’re so angry at our abuser and the patriarchal system that lets him off? So We’re going got punish the innocent?

And context is essential in everything. I was born and raised in the Western world and was an adult in 2009, but since I didn’t follow hip hop or watch the news much, I only had a vague sense of what happened and completely forgot about it until this blow up.

And I’m so distressed, knowing this must be hurting Joonie and Hobi so much.

In the comment below, I wanted to present a logical analogy without going into the details of personal matters, to give people something to think about. Perhaps I expressed myself unclearly due to my poor English, and nuances can get lost in translation.
So, let me put it another way. If some women tagged my husband in a photo from a company event on social media, should I demand a public apology from them because they hurt my feelings? How can they work with him after what he did to me? Did they not check his background?

It's the perpetrator who should apologize to the victim.

Shifting blame from the perpetrator to everyone else just because they're standing next to him is inappropriate. We all need to consider how to establish healthy boundaries in relationships with others.

This is my opinion, and others may disagree, but forcing people to shoulder someone else's actions has never helped any victim; it has only created new victims.
Does the fact that we suffer give us the right to inflict pain on others? If someone really thinks about the situation calmly, they'll realize that BTS is a victim of psychological abuse in cyberspace.
They're written about as criminals, as if they were the perpetrators of domestic violence!
The wounds inflicted by dagger-sharp words are invisible; words cut deeply, and the scars linger longer than the inflictor remembers them. The victims are far away, so wounds can be inflicted without guilt.
The pain won't be lessened when an artist hides it behind a fake smile on stage. The wounds will be painful, they will bleed, and they will lose their strength, but they are proud people, so they won't want to show it.
And when, harassed and "stabbed" by the cruel words of those they trust (ARMY), their health declines, everyone will blame Hybe, Big Hit, and, of course, the members themselves.
I've had many painful conversations and read a lot of material to cope with my own trauma.
At 51, I still have bad days, and depression returns along with nightmares. I was also a victim of bullying at work from my boss – women, not just men, can be cruel and aggressive.
I recognize psychological abuse when I see it, even when it's hidden behind hyper-empathy and the "being more wronged than the victim" syndrome.
Of course, I could be wrong because I'm only human, just like the members of this band.
I hope I explained my point well, but I'm not sure if Google Translate will get it wrong. Sorry for the long text; I tried to be more specific. Best regards.

Guys, remember what happened with Yoongi's incident and the illogical escalation that occurred. The media distorted some things and made some people think he did something unforgivable. It was just a media campaign against Yoongi and BTS, and some haters and K-pop fans were speaking on behalf of ARMY and exploited this. But thanks to our unity, their plan never succeeded. On the contrary, we exposed their lies and their exploitation to destroy the relationship between ARMY and the group. Now things are much clearer to me. Since BTS's comeback, all the music platforms united only to weaken the group, which is the comeback of the century. They attacked the album and tried to downplay it and its achievements. Even Spotify didn't hide it, and even the most famous music platform tried to lie, and Billboard. Radio stations didn't play their songs, even though some of the songs were in English. The local media attacked them along with the global media. The point that really changed everything was when the only artist everyone talked about at the World Cup event was BTS. They didn't expect that even with their time cut short, they would remain iconic, with the media not reporting on the tour's achievements. I remember the tour  Taylor was in all the news and even the band was accused of stealing a song, really?!!!  Anyway, everything escalated when a global artist refused the Grammys, and everyone started attacking them. Now look at the story of Winter from ISPA, their collaboration issue with AI, and Chris Brown's situation. Is it even a coincidence that the announcement of changes to the category BTS refused came on the same day as their concert attendance issue? I even went to videos of influencers and YouTubers who always spoke well of BTS, but they didn't just talk about Namjoon and Hobi's concert attendance issue; they brought up every problem BTS has faced since their debut and made them public again. This is what scared me when BTS refused the Grammys. From that moment, I planned this: they want to bring the group down by ruining the relationship between the group and ARMY. They know BTS's strength; they are their fans. This will make it clear. Look at the accounts that are criticizing BTS now out of hatred; you'll find they aren't real, they're fake accounts. And well, I'm also a woman, and as a fan, I might feel a little upset, but it's impossible for hatred to develop overnight. A true ARMY can't hate someone.  And I say this truthfully: BTS, in a single night and day, it's impossible. As a fan, would I only stand with them in their glory, but when someone points fingers at them or insults them, would I say no? I'm not by their side. Never. Just as they've always stood by us, I will also stand by them. Let me imagine the situation for a moment: if someone in my family or a friend is good and always stands by me and is successful, would I abandon them only when they're successful and let go when they're facing a problem? Never. Just as we've overcome problems before, like when the group was accused more than once, just as we've always walked this path together, the true ARMY and BTS together, this time too, we will overcome this ordeal. But I ask the fake ones not to come back when BTS gets over this, just like you did during Yoongi's accident yesterday. I was listening to the song "Please," and it really felt like a message to us: when the world tries to separate ARMY from the group, they want us not to respond to those who try to separate us. And the song "Towards the Sun" means they will stay with us even if we want to go to the sun. It means even if we burn together, they only care about the true ARMY. And the song "They Don't Know About Us" is for the fans.  The fake ones who know nothing, and the song "Normal"—this song, from the beginning, has etched something special and sad about their situation deep within me. Today, they live this reality: one day you love them, the next you hate them; one day you elevate them, the next you bring them down and shoot at them. But this makes them resilient, yet they are still human beings like us. I truly hope they overcome all these problems and remain strong at a time when they need rest amidst these exhausting schedules. Some are physically ill now, and I fear they might fall into depression. I hope nothing affects their mental health and that they remain strong, for the world these days is disgusting. They forget their real problems and need a celebrity to talk about their life, as if they need a victim every so often. I truly hate these online platforms and the disgusting internet community, which recently led to a young girl losing her life. Shame on you! No one is perfect, and no one has the right to judge others. We are all human.

It’s not necessary to know every detail about an artist’s personal life. Just for comparison, when this happened in 2008, I was young, and even though I was living in the U.S., I didn’t know about the Chris Brown incident because it wasn’t something I followed or paid attention to.

And saying that simply attending his concert means someone supports domestic violence is absurd. By that logic, are all 140 million of Chris Brown’s followers DV supporters? People can follow an artist, listen to their music, or attend a concert without knowing their entire personal history or without endorsing everything they’ve done.

Can't help but feel that the pushback for Chris Brown is stronger than other problematic associations because Brown's fans are predominantly Black and Latino Americans. It's really easy to push back against someone who wasn't a big musical influence for you, personally. And honestly, for BTS to do the music that they do and not show respect to the people who did it first... that would be VERY problematic. Don't get me started on how I see redflags with musicians like Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Michael Jackson, Charlie Puth etc..

DJ jino, another reactor who is Korean, said that the news from the Western music industry is barely covered in SK or even in Asia and that they don't care what happens in the West. That they have enough news and gossip in their own country. And that they don't have Google and what they see on their search engines and even on their social media, is completely different as what we see in the West. He said that most people in South Korea might know some of Chris Brown's music, but that they don't even have an idea what he looks like. The Rihanna thing also happened 17 years ago and RM and J-Hope were only 14 at that time and social media wasn't even a thing back then. And you can like someone's music and think someone,is talented without agreeing with everything that person says or does. And it doesn't mean that if they take a picture with them or make a video with them, that it means that they're friends. He also said that half of the Western artists or at least rappers had some criminal fact in their past and do people cancel those too? They measure with different standards. Some still think about them as idols that have to be perfect and flawless and be a role model for everyone...

I am a DV survivor and I really don’t get why people are so upset i had to google what the drama was about because as an non American I didn’t know  and after reading about it I still haven’t change my opinion. Do I condone what CB has done absolutely not but . This happened 17 years ago Rihanna forgave him and even ask him to collaborate on music a few years later. They went to a concert probably invited by usher where multiple artists performed including CB just because they went don’t mean they support CB or his past they are not responsible for his past and just maybe they didn’t know like me. They probably went to watch usher by invited and cb was also there to perform like other artists We can’t except them to background check on everyone’s past before going to a concert or even recommend a movie or book. Should we all do background checks when we watch a movie or read a book or even when we buy clothes or cars to see if anyone has a shady past. And why are people not upset at Rihanna for asking him to collaborate on music with her few years after or all the celebrities that went to concert or following him on instagram. It was concert nothing more,  they didn’t have private dinner with him or hanging out in private or even started to follow him on instagram. And what about all the female artist or celebrities that has been violent towards their partner nobody is judging them. I can separate music from the artists not all can do that and that okay. I am not disappointed with them at all they went to a concert had fun nothing more. BTS helped me through a very hard time in my life but they are not responsible for my feelings or mental health. they came in my life when I needed them and helped me through the hardest time in my life but they were never responsible for fixing me or anything like that that in on me. They are not responsible for everyone’s moral compass They are humans to and they probably have learned a lot from this we need to remember that they can make mistakes or even doing something we might not agree with with.

By viewing them and enjoying them, do I also support this? If I post a photo on social media, smiling and clutching my museum ticket, with Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" in the background, will I be stoned to death? What about other artists? Do we have to find all the information about the creator's life before we experience art? Do all the loud hypocrites turn off the radio and start a row in a restaurant or store when they hear music from an artist they don't want to listen to? I'm sure they don't!

BUT to jump to insults, threats and hostile, bullying behaviour becomes part of the problem. That being said, I appreciate the convos that Bora, HB and AEC encourage and the safe spaces they create.

It seems his hearing loss is not from loud noise or music. He mentioned getting it cleaned out. It is some kind of infection or fluid build up in the eustatian tube issue as one of the viewers mentioned. That is why treatment is working. Also as Hybe Boy mentioned, from his own experience the Korean Army provides good ear protection to soldiers when they shoot guns. My son as a baby and toddler had fluid in his ears and got tubes put in his ear drums for drainage. There was a lot of gunk behind the ear drums that was cleaned up for his first operation at 8 months old. The doctor said he probably heard the world like he was under water, muffled. Later, Hearing tests after the tubes fell out and the ear drums healed over shows no hearing loss. It is common with little ones. They grow out of it. But I guess adults can have similar conditions. ?

Honestly, what surprised me most wasn't RM and J-Hope attending the concert (they already made it very clear that Chris Brown – hate him or love him – played a huge role in their artistry, which isn't morally wrong, btw), but the extreme overreaction from some ARMYs and K-pop fans. Is it disappointing? A little, but I'd be a hypocrite to judge them when I also consume content from problematic figures. Still, acting like it's the end of the world is completely bonkers.

Stop putting celebrities on a pedestal and expecting perfection – no one is built like that, not even the internet's favorites. Stick to your own morals, but stop projecting them onto others.

I had no idea about how the Korean perspective was different. It's crazy how their wikipedia has very little information about CB. Everything makes much more sense to me. For example, I'm not american. I didn't even know who CB is. I literally just found out about everything recently. I realized that I had 2 of his songs in my playlist as well. So I was listening to his songs without knowing what he did and who he is. I'm not saying Namhope definitely didn't know as well, they are public figures and I think they have to be more careful because they have massive influence on people. But here is the thing, WE DON'T KNOW ANYTHING. We don't know if they knew or not, we don't know what they were thinking. Everyone are just ASSUMING things. Accusing them of things they have never done. And ignoring every single good things they have done, all the positive influence they had on us. It's crazy how fast some people turn on someone with just one mistake.

Bts are world famous celebrities and know about the world outside of South Korea. So they should have already been informed about Chris brown violent history and present- plus several of the members are fans of chris brown so they would know more about an artist they admire than a korean person in Korea who doesnt listen to his music and hasnt traveled the world and specifically the US For years on end.

I feel that some army are doing too much and sending hate to bts but some fans are trying to excuse RM and Jhope for attending his concert and taking and posting pics with him.

Everybody in the comments is mainly talking about "learning from mistakes,",  "productive dialogues," "productive criticism," etc but what they are failing to understand or intentionally ignoring is the fact that most fans are exactly asking for the same things, except their efforts to get some clarification/acknowledgment from the boys have been met with silence. Keeping the haters and general antis aside (I mean, they would usually jump on anything to hate them), the boys, who are mostly active on various platforms, have yet to show any kind of response to the immense backlash from the fandom space. Which begs the question: Why?

As a grown adult with a fully functioning brain, I do not believe celebrities should double as moral compasses in our lives. Similarly, to think that we know anyone just from consuming their content is also not true at all. But then there is the factor of the image that has been actively built by the boys and the company over the years, with all the UN campaigns and the heavy emphasis on feminist ideologies in their content, which no doubt helped them build a strong and loyal fan base. But whether those ideologies go beyond that and into their lives as well is a valid question for one to consider when they see the same guys hyping, supporting, and promoting a man well known in the industry for being violent against/ abusing women. Admittedly, plenty of artists have been guilty of the same in the past. But then again, those artists do not have the support of a fandom as loyal and huge as ARMY. I have been a fan of BTS for 10+ years and do not follow any other artist; their moral standing is not something that matters to me, but BTS's does.

Should we hate on them or say they are equally as abusive as CB? No. Does this mean it is a small thing and can be overlooked bc the boys have done many good deeds in the past? No. This kind of argument is exactly what cultivates the culture that excuses abusive and violent men. (A doctor, an athlete, or a defense personnel might have done many good deeds in their lives, but their contributions to society should not excuse their crimes; unfortunately, it does in many cases.  Now obv the boys aren't criminals. I'm putting this argument here to explain what culture I'm talking about.) An abusive man and everybody who stands next to him are all part of the culture that actively suppresses women/victims. Hence why many people are demanding a response.

We, as a fandom, have donated to multiple causes before this and will continue to do so in the future as well, but asking for accountability and donating for the victims can exist simultaneously. Both aren't mutually exclusive. And I would argue both are equally virtuous. Armys have always been filled with mindful women appreciating art, celebrating music, and building a great community together, but when the artist in question is wrong, the same fandom will speak out against them if needed. And I think that's beautiful. There are many rn who are blindly defending the boys in their blunder, to which I can only say I wish more people knew how to think for themselves and grew a spine to take a stand.

Meanwhile none of the average, non-famous people who didn’t know about Chris Brown’s violent 20 years don’t have a management team to do basic research before connecting RM and J-Hope, by extension, the BTS brand on their IG pages. They could’ve just gone and not posted about it, and no one would’ve known.

It’s as though nothing was learned from not vetting Diplo before he was assigned PD on the album. But it seems if BTS members approve, armys remain unbothered.

I just hope that somewhere in the distant future, thanks to such feedback from fans, artists and groups will be more attentive to the problems of artists like themselves. That is, they will refuse to work, disagree, and thus the public will change not only in Korea but also in the US. All these 50 million listeners are most likely millennials who turn a blind eye to violence against women and misogyny, thereby keeping CB alive. Otherwise, he would have been brought down to earth long ago. I hope life doesn't toss us around so much that we treat it as if it's meant to be.

I watched HYBEBOY’s video and made a comment thanking him for the perspective from a Korea.  Someone from the EU replied to my comment and stated it is the same there.  It is very disappointing to know that cb has been white-washed and that all of his violence has been ignored.  We will see how the English courts treat him in sentencing, though I don’t think he will get any prison time.  My problem is not with BTS, it is more with our society (the USA) being “oh he is rich and popular so it doesn’t matter how horrible a human he is”.  But of course I shouldn’t been surprised since a corpse has more body autonomy than a living breath woman in this country.  Thank you for talking about it and giving your perspective.  ❤

my position is that once again the fandom has been coopted by voices with bad intentions, and the real discourse misdirected. The disappointment is absolutely valid, however ARMY could have made a point by being strategic and smart. we could have really started a campaign to target the very real problem : the Western Music Industry keeps giving a platform to awful men. We could have started a good targeted cohesive campaign  Bts would have seen the fandoms movement and they could have been given time to reflect and change future behaviour.  I will never ever believe BTS deserve this harrassment. The accountability and responsibility will always be on the abuser

I have nothing against GP. My point is that when you are the biggest music act in the world right now, thousands of eyes are on you, and your behavior is constantly being judged according to the expectations and personalities of thousands of different people. You obviously cannot please everyone, and you shouldn’t have to. What matters in the long run is what these artists themselves have said and what their music has stood for. They have consistently spoken against violence, against imposed social structures, and in favor of preserving individual independence and values beyond gender.

In every interview and at every award show, you always see them treating women with respect and using the best language and behavior toward them. They have always been proud that a large majority of their fandom is women, whether it was mentioned in interviews or reflected in their music when they addressed us directly. So these labels simply do not fit BTS.

And when it comes to the idea that you cannot separate an artist’s work from their personality: when someone has committed something serious enough to enter the legal system and face a trial, then yes, that becomes a different matter, and artists are not exempt from that. We saw it with Kevin Spacey, and we saw it with Louis C.K. But do you no longer watch their movies because of that?

Your problem is that you expect these guys to be social activists. You think that by boycotting this or that, they can somehow change the world. But their tool is their music. That is how they change their own world and the world around them.

Ultimately, these issues come down to ethics, and ethics is an incredibly broad spectrum. Whenever they have taken a stand and held up a flag, we have defended them. So now, sit down and actually critique the artist. Don’t let them attending a concert become the entire basis of your judgment of their moral standards.

You guys actually dehumanize BTS, and this whole situation is exactly about that.

For example, if I watch a movie by Kim Ki-duk at home and share it on my Instagram story, no one is going to cancel me or tell me, “You’re defending a rapist.” No one is going to question my morals just because I watched one of his movies. And whether I know about the director’s background or not, it doesn’t suddenly make me a rape apologist. I can appreciate or engage with a piece of art without that automatically defining my entire moral character.

But when it comes to BTS, apparently they are expected to be saints. A completely normal thing suddenly becomes a huge moral issue simply because they did it.

And then you say, “They’re good people, but they’re human and they can make mistakes.” But look at the way you react to their “mistake.” You react as if they literally defended violence against women or did something fundamentally opposed to everything they have stood for throughout their careers.

And this is the ironic part: you keep saying you’re “disappointed” in them. But disappointment means that you had certain expectations or assumptions about these people in the first place, and now you’ve realized that some of those assumptions were wrong.

Do you guys actually realize the irony here?

You say they are human and that they can make mistakes, but the moment they do something that doesn’t fit the image you had of them, you react as if they were never allowed to be human in the first place.

And ARMY needs to remember that before reacting emotionally, they should think and write something with awareness. Of course, your reaction should be different from a GP’s. You know their music line by line. You know exactly what kind of people you are dealing with. You know what they have said, what they have stood for, and what they have consistently expressed through their music.

So you shouldn’t give GPs or other fandoms ammunition to use against you, especially when it comes to the hate train, death wishes, black oceans, and everything else that can come from situations like this. Your response should be the most thoughtful and informed one.

    That’s my opinion.

My issue is not with people being disappointed and upset at their attendance, where I see the line being crossed is when they demand public accountability and apologies. They are not the perpetrators of DV and they did "do" anything to us. What that choice means to them, and whether they feel they need to reflect or grow from it, is theirs to process. Accountability doesn't require turning that process into a public spectacle. I feel like some people are looking to them to heal their traumas, and that's not their role in this. Or it's just antis wanting for them to be humiliated.

Speaking as someone who wasn’t bothered by the boys’ presence at the show, I think people do have the right to express themselves. I understand that comments of criticism and hate end up getting mixed up, especially since the group’s haters take advantage of the situation to attack, without actually caring about it. And looking at the comments on the subject, I realize that a big part of the audience can’t separate these two things. So for the ARMYs who are attacking other ARMYs for expressing discomfort with this situation, remember that Namjoon is someone who values debate and will know very well how to separate genuine criticism from a hate comment. I actually think it’s even dangerous for BTS themselves if every criticism is interpreted as hate, after all, as human beings who are constantly growing, we need to question ourselves and question the people we care about. I’m even questioning myself right now about whether I should have cared more about this issue.

I’m really disappointed cause most of the fandom consists of women!  For someone who have studied feminism and for someone who has sung about independent women being amazing…idk it just feels wrong supporting a man like that. This is how I see it. Army have every right to be disappointed. The reason why BTS have become the role models they are is also due to army holding them accountable over the years. They have said multiple times that they have learnt from fans’ critiques – I have no doubt that they will continue to do so, whether they acknowledge it openly this time or not. I am always proud of this fandom for speaking up, and for creating safe spaces such as this one, where these things can be discussed and we can learn from one another’s perspective. And I am proud of BTS for listening.
When I see people saying things like ‘they might not have known what Chris Brown did, it wasn’t widely reported in Korea’ or ‘I also didn’t know what he did’, I think it’s really difficult for these arguments to have ground to stand on. You didn’t know because you are not a global musician, CB and BTS work in the same industry. And the idea that they live in a Korean bubble is absurd, they spend more time outside Korea than there. Namjoon even knew IShowSpeed’s legal name – they are neither sheltered nor naïve. I don’t know how Namjoon and Hobi justified this to themselves, perhaps this artist is such a big inspiration to them that they thought they could still enjoy his music despite his actions, perhaps they can separate art and artist in a way that most of us (myself included) can’t or don’t want to. Of course, while going to the concert was not good, posting about it made it worse.
But while army has every right to be disappointed, some of the anger I’ve seen online seems both misplaced and excessive. Some people are acting like BTS joined CB’s legal team, that they publicly supported his actions, or worse, committed them themselves. There are death threats going around (does that whole crowd at his concert deserve to d*e, I wonder, or is it just BTS?). There should be a clear line between disappointment and hatred, yet I’ve seen multiple so-called fans crossing these past few days. At the end of the day, they just went to a concert. Anything more than disappointment and criticism is a disproportionate reaction. This one Instagram story does not erase years of activism on BTS’s part. If you are army you know what BTS politics are.

I am disappointed in Rm and J-hope, but rather then a public apology/speech I would like if they started a campaign for women of DV. Or even just multiple public encouragement for people to donate to organizations that support women of DV as well as women shelter that focus on women in DV. Rather then sending hate and insulting them I believe people should ask them to instead show support and encourage other to show support. Anyone can give a apology rather to show growth I think helping others be aware of Women in DV and encourage others to donate their time or money shows a quite reflection.
Also please don’t drag either member’s family in to this. I have seen some nasty comments about how people hope their moms and sisters go through DV and that is NEVER okay. People that do this have NO moral standing to be asking or questioning anything BTS and Army does and acts.
Again I hope we can be respectful and polite when asking Rm, J-hope, and BTS as a whole to take a stand with women of DV and to use their platform to promote and bring awareness to this issue.

Even taking a pic with CB is not evidence of them being ok with his crimes. I will not make guesses about what the members do or don't know. But, it's ok for us to talk about it and it's ok for people to feel disappointed. I hope the members see it and stay away from CB from now on. But, not in a "let's be really loud and get their attention until they say something" kind of way. Just in a "I hope they notice this conversation," kind of way. I don't expect them to say anything about it at all. The legal system has to deal with CB, and I don't think the members can really say anything at this point.

I just don't understand how hybe has so much resources, but they receive an invite from CB and no one checks before asociating their brand to this artist? I always thought that these things were more "profesional" than just receive invite, accept bc they like the music, then go. It's crazy to me it truly works like this, when everything bts does has so much impact? I also think the issue here is not that they went to the concert (if they are the kind of person to separate the artist from the art/music, it's their choice and respectable) but that they posted it... You could say " it's their own accounts" but also they use it to post announcements like grammy so it's kind of a work account (?) They have so much reach, their reputation is good, this other artist won by a lot while they are perjudicated bc of their own choices. Why would they allow themselves to be put in these position? Why validate cb as an artist who is liked among artists globally? The whole thing is so unbelievable, which makes it sadder.

We can all learn and grow from this. I genuinely do not like abusers/pedos. I block artists from my music no matter how hard it is. Example: i blocked lism from one direction and rarely listened to one direction even though i was a huge directioner. Now in this case chris brown was already blocked in my music and i simply don’t interact with things  that involve him. Like I’m not going to speak on how people feel because everyone has a right to their own feelings, but if you’re just gonna stay around and demand, they apologize you obviously have more pent-up feelings and just leave you don’t get to demand that anyone do anything you only have a right to your feelings and your reactions and how you handle things. No one is forcing anyone to stay around BTS. If they feel like they’ve been let down to the point that they can’t trust them anymore just leave. It’s as simple as that if you ask me. I truly don’t get the disappointment. It’s so weird and so extremely parasocial.
