“Babylon” by Taylor Swift | Song of the Week [댓글]

[ytcid:UgwE3ABvGclV2oYousF4AaABAg] Cool song but it has nothing to do with the album concept. And it’s the 2nd ending and/or the ending of the album? Confused, half baked and tacked on

[ytcid:UgxS7-gGUDlt1h2xD2J4AaABAg] I agree that this was my fav song from the deluxe, but tbh it didn’t have a high bar to clear… I really dislike the percussion on it, though, it’s too repetitive and doesn’t fit the more melancholic timber of the song. Generally I have issues with similar choices made on this album; I might actually really like Pink Clouding if it weren’t for the three notes of ah-ah-ah at the end of certain lines in the chorus. Not sure if these are touches added by Max Martin and Shellback, or if she’s just trying something new, but it unfortunately makes me long for the end of the Showgirl era :/

[ytcid:UgxdnsPztjQs7YVbPw54AaABAg] Dont think the song is about Joe Alwyn. It is most likely about Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner. Alwyn never even cashed on her being famous all through the relationship. Instead, he chose extreme privacy. He is now doing crazy PR stunts, but he was a totally different person with Taylor

[ytcid:UgyX04sYy85nNpBojHN4AaABAg] I agree, I have also noticed those same themes too. Patient Zero to me reads as relating to Joe A. The intensity with which the speaker is using to describe the suffering they experienced during that relationship does not give "Joe Jonas" vibes- someone she dated for ONLY 3 months in 2008. The speaker in all these tortured relationship songs is in *agony*. "Tolerate It", "Exile"??! Joe A has been bad news for a longgg time.

[ytcid:UgzlfPsN7Knfgh5NJmx4AaABAg] @whatiwillsay I posted this to one of your earlier videos but I guess you didn't see it. Patient Zero is NOT about Joe or any other ex. Please read Taylor's words below. Also, I think the song was written both as a standalone AND to have the double meaning she'd already scripted in her mind for the music video. So HE is very intentionally "drawn". Not an ex. Taylor Swift’s Radio Interview on “Patient Zero” Inspiration / Taylor Swift revealed the real-life story behind her new song “Patient Zero” during a September 25, 2026 interview with the UK’s Capital FM. She explained that the idea came up while she was hanging out with a group of friends. One friend told the group she had been contacted by the new girlfriend of her ex-boyfriend, asking if she had experienced the same things with him. Swift said that “everyone” in the group immediately shared their own stories about similar situations. This conversation sparked Swift’s interest in exploring the scenario from a unique angle. She said: “If this has happened to all of us, it’s such an interesting kind of angle on humanity and on relationships, and I wonder if I could write something from the perspective of getting this phone call, and really only from the perspective and the side of the phone call of the ex who’s been through it before” In the song, the narrator is the former girlfriend who, after escaping a toxic relationship, is approached by the ex’s current partner. Instead of shutting the door, she offers support and insight, culminating in the line: “If you’re sick of him, I got you, I was patient zero”. Swift clarified that “Patient Zero” is not about one specific ex-boyfriend — it’s a fictionalized, relatable scenario drawn from a shared experience among her friends. The title metaphorically compares the first girlfriend to the initial known person affected in an outbreak, highlighting her role as the first to experience the ex’s harmful patterns. The track is part of the deluxe edition of her 2025 album The Life of a Showgirl, alongside “Cleveland!,” “Pink Clouding,” and “Babylon” E! The music video, starring Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, will debut at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards. In short: Taylor’s Capital FM interview revealed that “Patient Zero” was inspired by a group conversation about a friend’s ex’s new girlfriend reaching out for advice — a relatable, humanizing angle she turned into a song about empathy, shared experience, and breaking cycles of toxicity.
